Hexagram 24, Fù (Return): Line 2

复卦六二 · 地雷复 · 中文版

六二:休复,吉。

The line (Legge)

The second SIX, divided, shows the admirable return (of its subject). There will be good fortune.

Small Image commentary

'The good fortune attendant on the admirable return (of the subject of the second line)' is due to his condescension to the virtuous (subject of the line) below.

象曰:休复之吉,以下仁也。

In plain words

A fine return: good fortune. The second line is central and correct and right next to the first line; it draws close to the humane and returns to the right way. The Small Image says this is because it humbly draws near to the humane.

Applying it to your situation

If you want to change, this line suggests staying close to people who make you better. Who are the good people around you?

Position

A broken (yin) line in the second place, which is a yin (even) place, so it is in its proper place. It holds the centre of the lower trigram. Its partner is line 5; both are yin, so they do not respond.

If this line moves

With this line moving alone, Fù changes into Hexagram 19 Lín (Approach). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·复之临.

The hexagram

Hexagram 24 Fù (Return). The Judgment: Fu indicates that there will be free course and progress (in what it denotes). (The subject of it) finds no one to distress him in his exits and entrances; friends come to him, and no error is committed . He will return and repeat his (proper) course. In seven days comes his return. There will be advantage in whatever direction movement is made.
