临卦初九 · 地泽临 · 中文版

'The good fortune through the firm correctness of (the subject of the first line) advancing in company (with the subject of the second)' is due to his will being set on doing what is right.

象曰:咸临贞吉,志行正也。

In plain words

Approaching through mutual feeling; steadfastness brings good fortune. "Approaching" means overseeing from above; "mutual feeling" means being moved and moving others. The first line corresponds to the fourth and wins people with sincerity. The Small Image says its aims and conduct are upright.

Applying it to your situation

If you want to influence or lead others, this line suggests first moving them with sincerity. What makes people want to come closer to you?

Position

A solid (yang) line in the first place, which is a yang (odd) place, so it is in its proper place. Its partner is line 4; one is yin and the other yang, so they respond to each other.
