Hexagram 46, Shēng (Pushing Upward): Line 1
升卦初六 · 地风升 · 中文版
初六:允升,大吉。
The line (Legge)
The first SIX, divided, shows its subject advancing upwards with the welcome (of those above him). There will be great good fortune.
Small Image commentary
'He is welcomed in his advance upwards, and there will be great good fortune:' - (the subjects of) the upper (trigram) are of the same mind with him.
象曰:允升大吉,上合志也。
In plain words
Rising with trust: great good fortune. The first line is the ruler of the lower trigram, yielding and modest, of one mind with the second and third lines above, and rises with them. The Small Image says its aims match those above.
Applying it to your situation
If you have won trust and begun to rise, this line suggests staying modest and of one mind with those who support you. Who supports you, and how will you repay their trust?
Position
A broken (yin) line in the first place, which is a yang (odd) place, so it is not in its proper place. Its partner is line 4; both are yin, so they do not respond.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Shēng changes into Hexagram 11 Tài (Peace). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·升之泰.
The hexagram
Hexagram 46 Shēng (Pushing Upward). The Judgment: Sheng indicates that (under its conditions) there will be great progress and success. Seeking by (the qualities implied in it) to meet with the great man, its subject need have no anxiety. Advance to the south will be fortunate.
