Hexagram 35, Jìn (Progress): Line 3
晋卦六三 · 火地晋 · 中文版
六三:众允,悔亡。
The line (Legge)
The third SIX, divided, shows its subject trusted by all (around him). All occasion for repentance will disappear.
Small Image commentary
'All (around) trust him:' - their (common) aim is to move upwards and act.
象曰:众允之,志上行也。
In plain words
Trusted by all: regret vanishes. The third line is neither central nor correct, but it shares the aim of the two yin lines below and advances with them, winning everyone's support. The Small Image says its aim is to move upward.
Applying it to your situation
If you want to move something forward, this line suggests first winning the agreement of those around you. Do the people near you accept the direction you are heading?
Position
A broken (yin) line in the third place, which is a yang (odd) place, so it is not in its proper place. Its partner is line 6; one is yin and the other yang, so they respond to each other.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Jìn changes into Hexagram 56 Lǚ (The Wanderer). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·晋之旅.
A recorded case from Takashima
Jin to Lü: buying from a large company after two false starts: A Kyushu merchant asked whether a purchase from a large company would go through, and received the third line of Jin, "all agree; regret vanishes". Takashima laid out a story from the first line to the fourth: first blocked by others, then held back by his own doubts, and now everyone agreed; a greedy middleman might want a cut, but could not stop it. The deal would go through.
The hexagram
Hexagram 35 Jìn (Progress). The Judgment: In Jin we see a prince who secures the tranquillity (of the people) presented on that account with numerous horses (by the king), and three times in a day received at interviews.
