Hexagram 23, Bō (Splitting Apart): Line 2
剥卦六二 · 山地剥 · 中文版
六二:剥床以辨,蔑贞凶。
The line (Legge)
The second SIX, divided, shows one overthrowing the couch by injuring its frame. (The injury will go on to) the destruction of (all) firm correctness, and there will be evil.
Small Image commentary
'He destroys the couch by injuring its frame:' - (the superior man) has as yet no associates.
象曰:剥床以辨,未有与也。
In plain words
Splitting the bed reaches the frame where the legs join; what is right is cast aside: misfortune. The second and fifth lines are both yin, so there is no support. The Small Image says it has no helpers.
Applying it to your situation
If damage is spreading and you are on your own, this line suggests finding support as soon as possible. Who could help you stop the losses now?
Position
A broken (yin) line in the second place, which is a yin (even) place, so it is in its proper place. It holds the centre of the lower trigram. Its partner is line 5; both are yin, so they do not respond.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Bō changes into Hexagram 4 Méng (Youthful Folly). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·剥之蒙.
The hexagram
Hexagram 23 Bō (Splitting Apart). The Judgment: Bo indicates that (in the state which it symbolises) it will not be advantageous to make a movement in any direction whatever.
