Hexagram 12, Pǐ (Standstill): Line 6 (top)
否卦上九 · 天地否 · 中文版
上九:倾否,先否后喜。
The line (Legge)
The sixth NINE, undivided, shows the overthrow (and removal of) the condition of distress and obstruction. Before this there was that condition. Hereafter there will be joy.
Small Image commentary
'The distress and obstruction having reached its end, it is overthrown and removed:' - how could it be prolonged?
象曰:否终则倾,何可长也。
In plain words
The blockage is overturned: first blockage, then joy. The top line is the end of the hexagram; the saying that when blockage reaches its limit, peace returns, comes from this. The Small Image says that at its end the blockage topples: how could it last?
Applying it to your situation
If you have come through a closed-in stretch, this line suggests the turn lies at the far end of the difficulty. When it has passed, what would you most like to do first?
Position
A solid (yang) line in the top place, which is a yin (even) place, so it is not in its proper place. Its partner is line 3; one is yin and the other yang, so they respond to each other.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Pǐ changes into Hexagram 45 Cuì (Gathering Together). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·否之萃.
A recorded case from Takashima
Pi to Cui: talking business with an estranged friend in Tokyo: A Yokohama merchant had a major matter to put to a friend in Tokyo. The top line of Pi, "the blockage is overturned; first obstruction, then joy", led Takashima to say the two had drifted apart, but this time old grudges would clear and the talks would succeed.
The hexagram
Hexagram 12 Pǐ (Standstill). The Judgment: In Pi there is the want of good understanding between the (different classes of) men, and its indication is unfavourable to the firm and correct course of the superior man. We see in it the great gone and the little come.
