Hexagram 1, Qián (The Creative): Line 2
乾卦九二 · 乾为天 · 中文版
九二:见龙在田,利见大人。
The line (Legge)
In the second NINE, undivided, (we see its subject as) the dragon appearing in the field. It will be advantageous to meet with the great man.
Small Image commentary
'The dragon appears in the field:' - the diffusion of virtuous influence has been wide.
象曰:见龙在田,德施普也。
In plain words
The dragon appears in the field; it is favourable to see the great man. The dragon has come up from the deep onto open ground, and its qualities are beginning to be seen. "Favourable to see the great man" is read two ways: it is a good time to meet a wise person in a higher position, or this line is itself the great man others are glad to see. The Small Image says virtue is starting to reach everyone. The second line sits at the centre of the lower trigram and is traditionally counted as balanced.
Applying it to your situation
If people are just beginning to notice you, this is a good time to talk with those who have experience and are willing to help you along, and to let your abilities be of real use to the people around you. Who is most worth asking for advice right now?
Position
A solid (yang) line in the second place, which is a yin (even) place, so it is not in its proper place. It holds the centre of the lower trigram. Its partner is line 5; both are yang, so they do not respond.
If this line moves
With this line moving alone, Qián changes into Hexagram 13 Tóng Rén (Fellowship). The Jiaoshi Yilin verse for this change (Chinese): 焦氏易林·乾之同人.
The hexagram
Hexagram 1 Qián (The Creative). The Judgment: Qian (represents) what is great and originating, penetrating, advantageous, correct and firm.
